Dialysis Management Q & A

What is dialysis management?

Dialysis management covers all the care you need if your chronic kidney disease progresses to end-stage renal disease (ESRD). At that stage, you need dialysis to take over for your kidneys and filter your blood.

Your dialysis management begins with compassionate transitional care as you start dialysis and need to learn about new medical procedures and how to manage your long-term health.

Does dialysis management include treatment choices?

Dr. Saad understands the challenges of dialysis and places a priority on your comfort. He offers a choice of high-quality dialysis services so you can find one that fits your personal needs.

Dialysis location

You can have your treatments in Dr. Saad’s state-of-the-art dialysis center, Home Comfort Dialysis, or you can choose to take care of your dialysis at home. If you decide to use the clinic, you receive exceptional care in a comforting environment.

If you want home dialysis, Dr. Saad and his professional team work closely with you, teaching you how to perform dialysis and providing long-term support.

Dialysis types

There are two dialysis procedures: hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Both can be done at home or in the clinic.

Hemodialysis

Before you start hemodialysis, a permanent access point is made by connecting an artery and vein in your arm. Each time you have a hemodialysis session, your provider places one needle in the artery and another in the vein.

Blood flows from the artery through a tube to a machine (dialyzer). The dialyzer filters the blood, then leaves the machine through a second tube and returns to your body through the needle in your vein.

Peritoneal dialysis

Peritoneal dialysis uses an implanted catheter to fill your abdomen with a dialysate solution. You leave the fluid in your tummy for a specific time. The fluid absorbs wastes from your blood and carries them away when you drain the fluid.

What services will I receive through dialysis management?

Your dialysis management is comprehensive with many services and ways of supporting you during your treatment. Dr. Saad and the Nephrocare MD providers summarize dialysis management this way:

Dr. Saad provides compassionate medical care, nurses support your kidney and overall health needs, dietitians teach about dietary requirements, and social workers are available to help with a wide range of dialysis-related issues, from insurance problems to your emotional well-being.
