Home Comfort Dialysis Q & A

What is Home Comfort Dialysis?

Home Comfort Dialysis provides high-quality services for people needing dialysis. They provide transitional care, kidney and dialysis education, and dialysis treatment options.

What treatment choices does Home Comfort Dialysis offer?

Home Comfort Dialysis offers hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis and you can choose to receive treatment in the clinic or perform it at home. Here are several factors to consider:

Dialysis access

Before starting your treatment, you’ll have a minor surgical procedure to create dialysis access.

For hemodialysis, access is usually created in your arm by connecting an artery and vein. This makes it easier to place a needle in the artery to carry blood to the dialysis machine and another needle in the vein to receive the filtered blood after it leaves the machine.

Your access is a small tube implanted in your abdomen for peritoneal dialysis. A special fluid goes through the tube into your abdomen. The fluid pulls toxic wastes out of your blood, and when you drain the fluid, it carries away toxic wastes.

Dialysis at the clinic

Once your dialysis access has healed, you can start your treatment at Home Comfort Dialysis. At the clinic, you relax while specially trained nurses take care of your dialysis.

Dialysis at home

Before starting at-home dialysis, Dr. Saad and your Home Comfort Dialysis providers teach you everything you need to know to feel confident performing your own dialysis. You also need a care partner to attend training and be at your house during each treatment.

At-home hemodialysis gives you more flexibility in your schedule. While hemodialysis at the clinic typically requires three weekly sessions lasting four hours each, you can do more frequent sessions at home, with each lasting a shorter time. You can also choose to do dialysis overnight (if your care partner lives with you or can spend the night at your house).
