Home Comfort Dialysis Q & A

What is Home Comfort Dialysis?

Home Comfort Dialysis is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art dialysis in an environment designed to feel like home. Our goal is to ensure that patients experience a calm and tranquil atmosphere during their treatments, which can often be stressful. We are committed to helping patients remain active and independent by offering various dialysis modalities that accommodate their schedules and lifestyles. During the first six weeks, our expert team educates patients about their treatment options, empowering them to make informed decisions about their care.

What treatment choices does Home Comfort Dialysis offer?
Home Comfort Dialysis offers a full range of dialysis modalities, including:

  • Hemodialysis
  • Peritoneal dialysis
  • Home hemodialysis

Patients can choose to receive treatment at our clinic or perform it at home, depending on their personal preference and medical needs.

Here are some factors to consider:

  • Dialysis Access
Before starting dialysis, a minor surgical procedure is performed to create access for treatment.
    • For hemodialysis, this access is typically created in your arm by connecting an artery to a vein, allowing for the insertion of needles so blood can flow to and from the dialysis machine.
    • For peritoneal dialysis, a small catheter is implanted in your abdomen. A special fluid flows through the tube into your abdomen, drawing toxins from your blood. Once the fluid is drained, the toxins are removed from your body.

Dialysis at the Clinic
After your dialysis access has healed, you can begin treatment at Home Comfort Dialysis. During each session, our highly trained nurses will take care of your dialysis while you relax in a comfortable environment.

Dialysis at Home
If you prefer at-home dialysis, our Home Comfort Dialysis team will provide thorough training for you and your care partner, ensuring you feel confident performing dialysis independently. A care partner is essential to assist during these treatments.

At-home hemodialysis offers more flexibility in scheduling. While in-clinic treatments typically require three sessions per week, each lasting about four hours, at-home hemodialysis allows for more frequent, shorter sessions. Patients can also opt for overnight dialysis, as long as their care partner is available to assist.
